Grillin N' Chillin With Athletic Department

The second annual Athletic Auction and Dinner to raise money for UCC sports will be held on Saturday, May 12. The tailgate-themed auction, Grill n’ Chill, will take place at 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Lang Event Center with dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets are $55 per person or $400 for a table of eight.

This auction and dinner is the main fund raiser for the athletic department with all proceeds going to the athletic department.

The first annual Athletic Auction and Dinner last year raised $12,000 with the benefits split between the three UCC sport teams: volleyball, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.

Cheryl Yoder, athletics director, says that the money raised during this year’s fund raiser will help replace UCC’s 40-year-old scoreboard. This $8,000 purchase should be no problem if the auction manages to meet last year’s profits.

To reach the goal, Yoder is hoping to sell 150 tickets in a mixture of group and single ticket sales.

The Grill n’ Chill will offer an extensive selection of items to bid on during either silent or live auctions, and the dinner will be prepared by the culinary art students. Guests will also be treated to live music.

Auction items will take the form of donated baskets. Some baskets have already been donated: a family fun basket, tailgate basket, spa basket, camping basket, breakfast cooking basket, pet grooming basket and a wild world of sports basket with a variety of tickets for local high school and college sport games.

Tickets can be purchased at Tickets.Umpqua.edu. For information regarding donation submissions or suggestions for donation ideas, contact Cheryl Yoder at (541) 440-7729. More information is available at www.umpqua.edu/auction.
